Ezra E. Smith, fifth Riverside County Superintendent of Schools
September 7, 1926 - January 8, 1951
Ezra E. Smith served Riverside County as superintendent of schools for nearly 25 years. Mr. Smith was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to take office the same month due to the resignation of the incumbent, Ira Landis.
Superintendent Smith was faced with a growth of approximately 100% in numbers of students in the county and an increase of more than a million dollars in total annual school expenditures.
The county office grew from six to 21 employees during his tenure.
