Educational Services | Educational Services/California Subject Exams for Teachers: Languages Other than English (CSET:LOTE) Examination
The California Department of Education has designated the Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) as a Bilingual Teacher Training Program (BTTP) agency. This program is especially designed to assist teachers in the acquisition and development of skills to work with English Learners (ELs).
Instructional Services offers courses for teachers (K-12) who already possess an English Learner (EL) Authorization who are seeking their Bilingual Authorization certificate by examination from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). This certificate, also know as the Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language, and Academic Development, or BCLAD, Certificate, authorizes teachers to provide primary language instruction to English Learners. Teachers must demonstrate competence in the knowledge and skill areas necessary for effective teaching of English Learners in their primary language by taking the California Subject Exams for Teachers: Languages Other than English (CSET:LOTE) Examination, in order to receive the BCLAD Certificate.
"The CSET:LOTE replaced the BCLAD examinations in December 2007. The CSET:LOTE is composed of three separate subtests. The Module 3 subtest covers target language and communication skills, while the Module 4 subtest addresses primary language methodology. The focus of the final subtest, Module 5, is culture of emphasis knowledge.
IS offers training that is aligned with and prepares teachers to take the CSET:LOTE Module 4 and 5 examinations."
