CAREspace News ImageTo address the rising need for mental health services for students, the Riverside County Office of Education has opened six CAREspace locations with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the David L. Long Regional Learning Center in Murrieta, on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

Each CAREspace is designed to serve as a dedicated location for students to re-charge, re-focus, and get into the right head space for learning while providing access to mental health and related services to students, families, schools, and the community of Riverside County. The “CARE” in CAREspace refers to Community, Access, Relationships, and Emotional Wellness.

As part of the Mental Health Initiative at the Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE), each CAREspace location will offer individual counseling, group counseling, family counseling, case management, and referrals. Each location will also offer staff training and parent workshops while staff will also provide presentations to students on a variety of wellness-related topics. Services will be offered in English and Spanish and can include telehealth and home/community accessibility. Each CAREspace serves as a supplement to mental health programs and services offered throughout all 23 school districts in Riverside County.

“In these extraordinary and unprecedented times, educating students requires extraordinary service and providing unprecedented support, and our collective focus on the social-emotional health of students and fellow educators has never been more important than it is right now,” said Riverside County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Edwin Gomez. “Facilities and services like those offered inside each CAREspace are showing students that their educators see them, and hear them, and are here to help them succeed.”

The Coachella Valley-based Latino Commission, has partnered with RCOE to provide mental health services for Riverside County students, families, schools, and the community. All counselors and social workers are Licensed or Associates with the appropriate level of supervision, and all of providers have extensive experience providing mental health and related services to students, families, and the community.
