Riverside County Office of Education
Home MenuThe Equity & Inclusive Practices Initiative promotes the full range of inclusivity and equity within the public school system. A focus of the Equity & Inclusive Practices is to provide educators professional development opportunities that help them integrate the concepts of access and equity into policies and practices, while developing an appreciation of other cultures, languages, orientations, and backgrounds, among diverse groups of students and staff.
The Equity & Inclusive Practices Initiative includes supporting and expanding existing anti-racism, equity, and inclusivity efforts within the 23 school districts in Riverside County.
RCOE's 2nd Annual Lego Fun Fair literally built bridges between special education students and general education students from across Riverside County. Watch Equity & Inclusive Practices in action during this unique event where students with special needs partner up with student mentors to complete a Lego project and try their hand at Esports.
Building Capacity for Equitable Practices
The Equity and Inclusive Practices team provides ongoing opportunities for growth and support to Riverside County school districts and RCOE programs as they begin and continue the work of equity.

Fall 2024 Update
Major outreach events like the Back To School Resource Fair and another year of Winter Wonderland events continue to offer support to students and families in the county while the 11th Annual Excellence Through Equity Conference (see highlights above) provided educators with tools to more equitably serve students.
Expanding on our Success Walks from 2023-2024, RCOE is proud to continue the partnership with our districts and offer School Showcase tours for 2024-2025. These tours are intentionally designed opportunities for educator-to-educator learning across sites demonstrating successful practices centered on equity and inclusion. Educators will spend time learning from leadership on the site, walking classrooms, and reviewing artifacts to take back to their own sites and apply to their unique contexts.
Partner districts have also been offered a free year of user access to digiCOACH where the Success Walk tool was digitized and available for site use to build capacity of teams. The digitized tool of look-fors of best practices can be used to collect data, access live reports, and offer feedback across teams in the name of continuous improvement.
RCOE Partnership with Special Olympics
The Equity & Inclusive Practices Initiative comes alive when students with disabilities and general education students compete side by side in a variety of sports.
Cultural Awareness Resources
In celebration of the many contributions of historically marginalized identities, RCOE Equity and Inclusion invites you to learn more through our heritage months and identity acknowledgements throughout the year.
Find recognition descriptions, resources, and activities for each month on the Cultural Awareness Resources page.
