The Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA) is the most recent reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). The ESEA, as amended by the ESSA (hereafter, ESEA) is designed to improve opportunities for all of America’s students. Specifically, the law requires states to:
- Hold all students to high academic standards.
- Prepare all students for success in college and career.
- Guarantee that steps are taken to help students and their schools improve.
- Hold schools accountable for student outcomes.
Eligibility for Support and Improvement
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires state educational agencies to determine school eligibility for Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI), Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) and Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI). Local educational agencies (LEAs) with schools that meet the criteria for CSI, TSI, and ATSI must partner with stakeholders to locally develop and implement a plan to improve student outcomes.
