In the Spring of 2021, Louisa Higgins, Arts Administrator, and Peggy Burt, Arts Consultant, began an in-depth study of the new Arts Framework, which was published in 2020. Specifically, they reviewed the following chapters:

  • Chapter One
    Vision and Goals for Standards-Based
    Arts Education
  • Chapter Two
    The Instructional Cycle
  • Chapter Eight
Transcending Disciplinary Boundaries - Arts Integration
  • Chapter Nine
    Implementing Effective Arts Education

After a summer spent in reading and discussion, Louisa and Peggy created a three-hour, experiential training around this professional learning which they entitled “Demystifying the Framework.” The training allows for learner engagement and processing of the various concepts presented in the framework, utilizing a series of vignettes and activities. The training was conducted in a variety of live settings, as well as virtually. Louisa and Peggy then taped a two-hour version of the training, which you can find on our webpage. This location also has the handouts from the presentation, available as downloadable PDFs.

The Riverside County Office of Education is pleased to offer this resource to districts, arts teachers, and arts organizations at no charge. It is also available as an in-person or virtual workshop by request.

We invite you to check out this presentation, and make use of it, as we move forward with our new Arts Framework in the state of California. We hope that you find it to be a practical and useful tool in the pursuit of excellence in arts education!
