In 1941, a young librarian with a passion for storytelling crafted a children’s classic novel that delved into prejudice, bullying, and empathy. The Hundred Dresses, penned by Eleanor Estes, narrates the poignant tale of Wanda Petronski, a little Polish girl who becomes the target of teasing from her classmates, led by Peggy and Maddie—the original mean girls.

The Hundred Dresses Trunk Show, a significant collaborative effort curated by Louisa Higgins, Riverside County Office of Education Arts Administrator, and Karen Riley, S.C.R.A.P. Gallery Executive Director, is not just an exhibit. It’s a powerful testament to the role of art in nurturing kindness, inclusion, imagination, and creativity. This transformative journey beckons everyone to join. The exhibit will feature one hundred unique dress images crafted by a diverse collective of amateur and professional artists. It will embark on a tour across Riverside County in 2025.

We invite students, teachers, librarians, parents, and professional artists to contribute to the exhibit by submitting their own dress artworks. Selected dresses will be framed and part of this exclusive, traveling art show.

Parameters: 

• Size – 5” x 7”.
• Work must be on paper.
• Acceptable mediums: crayon, colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, or collage.
• Colorful, imaginative work, as well as use of recycled materials is strongly encouraged.
• ALL artworks must be labeled legibly on the back with:
  • Student Name
  • Teacher Name
  • Full Name of School
  • Grade Level
  • District Name
    (Note: Teachers submitting on behalf of their class may send either selected entries or a whole class set)
