California NGSS – Next Generation Science Standards
The NGSS standards are based on the National Framework for K-12 Science Education, which was developed by the National Research Council, the staffing arm of the National Academy of Sciences, and released in July 2011. The vision laid out in the Framework identifies what students need to know and be able to do to be a functional citizen, which includes being scientifically literate and an effective member of the U.S. workforce. Visit the NGSS website hosted by Achieve.
For information on how to read and implement the standards, please see Inside The NGSS Box and the California Science Framework. The NGSS Appendices A-M were also adopted to assist teachers in the implementation of the new science standards and to aid in the development of the new science curriculum framework.
The California Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS) can be viewed by using this link CA NGSS Standards. The standards can be viewed by grade level Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI): Life Sciences, Earth and Space Sciences, and Physical Sciences, or by grade level Topic (e.g., Chemical Reactions, Structure and Function, or Space Systems).
