The Desert Edge School is located in the Riverside County jails (Banning, Indio, Riverside, Southwest) in partnership with the Sheriff, and at the Day Reporting Centers (DRC) located in Indio, Moreno Valley, Riverside, and Temecula in partnership with Probation and California State University, San Bernardino. Programs offered for adult education in the jails and DRCs include high school diploma, high school equivalency, adult basic education (ABE), English as a second language (ESL), and EL Civics. Career Technical Education (CTE) programs in the jails include Construction Technology, Computer Information Systems (CIS), and Graphics Technology.
RCOE is implementing National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) courses that include standardized construction and maintenance curriculum and assessments with portable credentials. NCCER’s workforce development process of accreditation, instructor certification, standardized curriculum, registry, assessment and certification is a key component in the industry’s workforce development efforts. Classroom and independent study programs are available which are aligned to the California (Common Core) State Standards. The Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) is used to track progress on indicators for the jails.
