CalSTRS Retirement Processing
The CalSTRS Retirement Reporting unit in District Fiscal Services acts as an intermediary between school districts in Riverside County and the State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS). The unit assists in the reporting of payroll information to the CalSTRS system and provides support, assistance and direction to districts with the proper coding of payroll records for retirement law compliance. Services provided by the CalSTRS retirement unit include:
- Legislative updates
- Monitoring membership qualifications
- Processing of retirement forms for membership, refunds and service credit corrections
- Review and processing of Retirement System Election forms
- Reporting of retired annuitant earnings
- Purchase and redeposit of retirement service credit
- Assistance with retirement related audits and corrections
- Resolutions and contract amendments such as Golden Handshakes and exception to the 180-Day wait period for retired annuitants
If you are an employee and have questions related to your retirement reporting records, please contact your employing LEA directly.
If you are a district office employee and need assistance with CalSTRS related matters, you may contact the DFS STRS unit.
SEW Access Request
Please follow the SEW registration instructions below.
STEP 1: Fill out the access form linked here: CalSTRS SEW Access Request Form.
- Primary SEW Username: Must be the same as the username selected in the online registration (refer to Step 3)
- Report Unit Code: Your district number
Do not send the form to CalSTRS. You will need to send it to DFS directly (See Step 4).
STEP 2: Complete the permissions form that is relevant to your organization:
K-12 and Charters Using Galaxy
Community College Districts Using Galaxy
Charters and Districts Not Using Galaxy
STEP 3: Complete the online registration. See the guidelines below:
Under the Employer Information Section
- Select DB Employers
- Report Source is 33
- You must select a Report Unit number. Search for your district, charter, or community college and select your organization.
Under Account Information Section
- Please use the same username selected in the CalSTRS SEW Access Request Form above (refer to Step 1).
Step 4: Submit the two completed forms from Step 1 and 2 to DFS via email to mwadley@rcoe.us, or fax them to (951) 826-6961. Please DO NOT submit the forms to CalSTRS, only to DFS.
Please note: DFS cannot complete your registration without the two completed forms and the online registration.
CalSTRS will notify you via email when your SEW access has been activated.
